Plum Blueberry Peach Cake

Remember all those plums that were on my tree? One night right before dark I was washing dishes and looked out the window and there were two deer helping themselves to my plums. So I quietly opened the door and ran out after them. They high tailed it through the field. Knowing they would come back when I went to sleep, I picked all of them. Now I have plums running out my ears. I found a recipe for Plum Blueberry upside down cake, yummy!! I added some peaches as well. If any one has any recipes for plums I would love to try them.

Wednesday, 6/9 offer! Reef Select Styles $25 or less!

6PM is having an awesome sale on their reef sandals. I tried these on when we were at the beach and was impressed about the comfort. I have always been the $2.50 flip flop girl. I just wasn't willing to pay $30 for a pair of reef's. So when I seen that 6PM was having a sale I hurried over and found a pair I liked. They retailed for $28, were on sale 60% off, got a steal at $11.20, plus shipping. 6PM only charges $6.95 for shipping, regardless of the dollar amount you order. 6PM has been very fast with their deliveries. I can't wait to try on my new reef's. Go check it out!!

Listen and Learn

I have been gardening for many years now but am new to fruit trees. We love fruit at our house so I decided to plant some fruit trees a few years ago. First lesson, do your research on what kind of fruit trees you want to plant. Some require at least two of the same kind to pollinate each other, some are self pollinating. Take my pear tree, it is not self pollinating. So I bought another one to place beside it. Well, the deer decided to rub against it until it was almost dead. Thankfully it is coming back, but no pears this year.
I have one dwarf peach tree and one regular peach tree. The dwarf trees will produce fruit in only a year or two but do not get very big. Now my plum tree has been here for three years and this is the first year I have gotten fruit from it. A wise orchard lady told me to thin the plums before their pits got hard and to leave a 2-3" space between each plum. This would make for bigger better plums. It would also help from the weight so the limbs don't brake. So I headed out to the tree and could not bring myself to plucking them off. I didn't know which ones to pick, maybe I would pick the strongest ones and they all would die. So I left them alone. Well, now I have small plums. They are still very tasty, but not very big. Lesson learned. Listen to the wise ones and do some research.

Three Day Getaway

Ahhh, the sun, the sand, the ocean waves, so relaxing.

We are back from our three day getaway to Virginia Beach. It is always nice to get away even if it is only for a few days. You can go on vacation for little cost if you plan it right and do some searching. There are so many things to do at Virginia Beach. Dolphin watching boat trips, parasailing, fishing, crabbing, jet ski rentals, and miles of board walk for that evening stroll.

We stayed at the Ramada Limited which is on Atlantic Ave., not ocean front but across the street. A big savings. Check out priceline.com for some great hotel prices.
If you are planning a trip to Virginia Beach stop by many of the coupon boxes and grab some great deals. These boxes are all over the place at the beach. You'll find coupons on pizza, shopping, dinning out, amusement parks and many other great deals.

Our first day there we just hung out at the beach and enjoyed a few shops. Our second day we headed to the Virginia Aquarium. Definitely worth checking it out. They also have an imax theater that we didn't get to see, but there's always next time. Vacation Market has discount tickets to the aquarium. They have locations on Atlantic Ave at 16th, 25th and 31st streets. The sting rays were one of our favorites. I also liked the reptiles and the sea otters. The otters were so cute basking in the sun.
We ate at the Jewish Mother for dinner, a little pricey, but we had a 20% off coupon from our books we picked up. Check out this enormous sandwich. For lunch, it was sandwiches on the beach. Packing your own lunches can save you a lot. And if your hotel has continental breakfast, even more savings.
That is one big sandwich!!

It was nice to get away for a few days, but now back to reality and work. I hope you are able to take some time off and enjoy the summer.
