Day 5 of Eating Real Food Pledge

Hello everyone, it's day 5 of my Eat Real Food Pledge. I'm excited to say that I have lost 3 lbs. I think it's because of the "white" breads that I have cut out of my diet. No donuts, no white bread, no pastries. You know how I love to bake my goodies. I'm still making my delicious treats, just with healthier ingredients now. Try these mini apple pies. They are so yummy!!

Breakfast:

Whole wheat toast with homemade apple butter (recipe coming soon)
Banana
Cup of black coffee

Lunch:

Whole wheat tortilla with refried beans, lettuce and homemade salsa
applesauce for desert

Dinner:

Baked chicken in crock-pot, salad, whole wheat rolls. Mini apple pie's for desert.

So far so good. It hasn't been as tuff as I thought it would be. My 13 year old niece tried it with me but on day 3 she had enough. A for effort Kia :) It's hard for kids to eat healthy when everything around them SCREAMS eat me. There are so many bad choices for kids and very few healthy choices. Kia had a very hard time during lunch. When she packed from home she did fine, when it came to buying school lunch, forget it. All bad choices. The school didn't offer salad or fresh fruit. What's a kid suppose to do but eat the bad choices. Somethings gotta give with these school lunches.

I would love to know what healthy lunches you pack for your kids? How do you get your kids to try new healthy foods?

10 Day Pledge to Eat "Real Food"

Join me in a 10 day pledge to eat only "real food". Lisa @ 100daysofrealfood tells her story on how "real food" changed her families life.

I will be starting today, Oct. 17, 2011 and going for 10 days. I will post my meals and how my progression is going. I weighed myself this morning and hopefully there will be a drop in the numbers by the end of the 10 days. The meals are going to be the most difficult because of my picky teenage daughter. We just might have to make two different meals.

Breakfast:
1 scrambled egg, an apple and a cup of coffee

Lunch:
Salad (spinach, tomato, onion, mushroom, boiled egg, oil & vinegar dressing)
home canned peaches

Dinner:
Homemade chicken noodle soup

Join me and take the "10 day pledge". Let's see how good we feel at the end of our 10 day journey. Who knows, maybe this will be life changing?!?!

Do you have any "real food" recipes for me to try out?

Preserving Food

Preserving food is a great way to save on money and much healthier for you and your family. Fall has some wonderful foods like squash, pumpkins, kale and collard greens. These wonderful foods will not last forever so it's that time to start preserving them for the winter ahead.

Laura @ Heavenly Homemakers has a great guide on "Gardening and Preserving". She's a great teacher on healthy eating.

Here are some great fall recipes: Sweet potato soup, Cranberry Pumpkin Scones, and give Fruit Leather a try. Mmmm, good!!
