HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY JAM
Thanks to my wonderful mother, she found another strawberry patch nearby and brought me some berries. She gave me 20 lbs. I only used 7-8lbs for the jams. They were $1.49lb for pick your own. Not to bad for fresh strawberries riped on the vine. They are so sweet, YUM!! Some of the berries I made into freezer jam. I followed the recipe on the sure-jell box. It was very, very easy. It took my all of 30 mins., to wash, stir, ladle and put of the tops. The freezer jam are in the plastic containers with the purple lids, notice a difference in color. When you cook the berries they turn darker. Both jams are very sweet and delicious. The sealed canned jars took a little longer. They took 2 hours from start to finish. We have to wash the jars and bans, boil the flat lids, boil your water for canning(it's a big pot, takes a while),then stir berries with sure-jell and cook to a full rolling boil. Add sugar and boil again. Ladle into jar, wipe down the side and tops for spills, put on flat lid and ring. Screw on tight and load into your pot to can. The exact recipe comes with the sure-jell. It cost me approx. $16.00 to make all those jars. I don't even know the cost of jam in the store. I'm sure its a big savings. I also save these for Christmas presents. The strawberry jams are always a favorite.

SAVING MONEY WITH COUPONS
My recent trip to Harris Teeter was a huge savings for me. Everything I bought was on sale and I had coupons for. My local Harris Teeter doubles coupons up to .99cents. Total before coupons and vic card was $63.83, total after vic card and coupons was $16.51, a savings of $47.32. That is a 75% savings. My strategy is: I clip every coupon I see that I would like to have if it was free, if you don't have dogs you probably won't need to clip dog food coupons. Then I organize them in my coupon binder. I check the local grocery store ads each week and compare their specials with my coupons. Example: wishbone salad dressing was buy one get one free @ $3.15, I clipped a .75 cent coupon, they doubled that for a savings of $1.50. Total paid for two wish bone dressing were $1.65. Harris Teeter had two baskets full of discounted dog and cat treats. They had Jerky treats, regular price $4.19, on sale for $2.09, had coupon for $1.00 off= $1.09 total paid. Always check the clearance baskets or racks. You can find some good buys on them. Here is a picture of some of my shopping, I gave the cereal to my sister and also had two bags of cat food not pictured. Disregard the date on the picture, haven't figured out how to change that yet.

Growing your own vegetables
Radishes are easy to grow and very inexpensive. I bought a pack of seeds for .99 cents, only planted half of them and here are the results. I have picked a few before this picture, these are the majority. They take approx. 4-6 weeks to harvest. When planting your radishes follow the instructions on the package. These would have cost me approx. $2.50 in the grocery store. A big savings. Growing your own vegetables are not only cost efficient but you know what is in your soil and what your putting on them. I think it will be salad for dinner tonight. Yum!!

Scoring from defense
I know this has nothing to do with frugal shopping or gardening but I just had to share my good news. My daughter plays on her high school JV soccer team. Last nights game she scored her first goal. She was on defense at midfield and booted the ball into the goal. It was beautiful. The whole team stopped and watched the ball fly through the air and into the goal. I almost lost my voice for screaming so loud. I am treated her to Apple bee's for dinner tomorrow night for her great play.

Coupons are a great way of saving money. They don't take long to cut or click. There are alot of sites with coupons. coupons.com is a great one. Your local newspaper is another great place to find coupons. I file my coupons in an organizer with labels stating frozen, dog food, snacks, cleaning supplies, etc.. Then I go to my local grocery stores web site and compare what they have on sale to my coupons. I never pay regular price.
Yesterday I took a trip to super walmart. They have Kraft salad dressing for $1.58, I had clipped a coupon out of Sundays insert for $1.50 off Kraft dressing=spending only .08 cents. I had more coupons also, that wasn't the only thing I bought. I was unaware that they didn't take internet coupons. I tried using a coupon for the new V8 fusion drinks and the cashier said they didn't take them. Bummer for them, I didn't buy the V8 fusion.

I would like to explain my site name a little more. My great grandfather and his daughter, my grandmother, both taught me how to garden. Their last names are Boyles and Bailey. So the Two B's are for them. On this site I will talk about gardening tips and a few other things I enjoy. Saving money and frugal shopping. I love to get a great deal. Check back soon for new updates.
